Rooftops are used for drying chillies and other locally produced spices.
This region is high in the Himalayan foothills in north-eastern Uttaranchal and was a popular summer retreat for the British administrators to escape the intense heat of summer on the plains.
The area around Corbett National Park was especially popular for those with a penchant for hunting.
