Boys play football in front of old Dutch warehouses on the waterfront at Singaraja on Bali's north coast.
Singaraja, which means Lion King, is the second largest city in Bali and was a major port and administrative centre for the Dutch. In colonial days this region of Bali was busy and commercial, and the south a quiet tropical haven - quite the opposite today!
There are some good examples of colonial Dutch architecture in Singaraja. There are 2 university campuses and some active political movements who occasionally make themselves heard.
