#05 Motorised vehicles are not allowed in the labyrinth of narrow laneways of the Fès-el-Bali medina. All the produce and goods bought and sold here are transported in and out of the medina by handcart, donkey or mule. The medina is vast and often very crowded but as expatriate American author Paul Bowles wrote "... to lose oneself in the crowd - to be pulled along by it - not knowing where to or for how long ... to see the beauty where it is least likely to appear... ". |
