#10 Ksours are family housing compounds common in this part of Morocco. Each ksour originally controlled one part of the oasis and there were frequent conflicts when compounds had to be defended. This photo shows sub-terranean passages joining family houses that were used by residents in times of war when the heavily defended outside walls may have been beseiged. |
